About Me
I’m Laura Scott, a jewellery designer and maker based in Cairns, Far North Queensland.
I create one-of-a-kind silver pieces using the sandcasting process, an old technique where molten silver is poured into moulds made from beach sand. Each pour captures its own texture and small traces of the place it was made.
From my home garage studio, I melt, pour, and polish each piece by hand. I’m drawn to the slower pace of handmade work and the rhythm of shaping metal. Each piece carries its own imperfections and details, a reminder of the process behind it.
My work is inspired by the natural beauty of Cairns - the beaches, the rainforest and the reef - as well as the rugged hills of my hometown in Central Otago, New Zealand. Every piece is made to feel grounded and lasting, a small connection to the elements of sand, sea and stone.
